Celta Vigo kicks off La Liga 2012/13
The other two matches on the opening day will see Sevilla face Getafe whilst Mallorca will host Espanyol.
La Liga is mostly seen as a two horse race between Real Madrid and Barcelona whilst the rest of the teams have no chance I think there are strong enough teams in the league hence Atletico Madrid won the Europa Cup last season.
The biggest change this season is maybe at Barcelona where Tito Vilanova has taken over from Pep Guardiola.
Vilanovas challenge will be to wrestle the title back from Real and possibly to also reclaim the Champions League.
Real have remained steady with Jose Mourinho still in charge and having got the league last season the next challenge may be the Uefa Champions League.
Of the chasing pack Valencia will still offer a strong challenge. They will kick off the season with a match against defending champions Real and that will be a very big early test for them.
Barcelona are at home to Real Sociedad and they will be trying to avoid the home draws that cost them dearly last season.
Atletico Madrid finished last season strongly after the appointment of Diego Simeone and I expect them to offer a good challenge and possibly finish in the top four.
The other promoted teams will play their matches on Monday night with Deportivo La Coruna meeting Osasuna and Real Valladolid playing the last match of the opening round against Real Zaragoza.
2012/13 Premier League preview
It promises to be yet another exciting season with new managers at the helm at Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspurs, Swansea, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Norwich.
Of the teams that finished in the top five last season, only Spurs have changed its manager.
Former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas takes the reigns at White Hart Lane and its interesting to see if the can improve on the fourth position the team finished in last season under Harry Redknapp.
It looks likely that the top four teams will be Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea in some order.
Liverpool could challenge for a top four finish and hence Champions League football in the 2013/14 season, but they will have to be better than Spurs and its debatable whether Newcastle can sustain last season's good run.
The newly promoted teams are Southampton, West Ham and Reading and it would seem like West Ham have made good preparations so far bringing in new players to strengthen their squad.
Reading and Soton will have to do the same or it will be a long season.
Norwich and Swansea did well last season but the managers responsible for that have since left and so it remains to be seen if the new managers can keep the teams well away from relegation.
For the teams that flirted with relegation last season, Aston Villa have done well to bring a good manager who did well in his first season in the top flight.
Wigan will have to start the season the way they finished the last one in order to stay in the division.
QPR will also have to start well and the get the team gelled early enough in the season. Mark Hughes will be there from the start and so that should help them.
The likes of Fulham, Everton, Sunderland and Stoke should be comfortable finishing mid-table.
TipsChallenge will continue with the English Premier League tipping competition and everyone in the competition gets a league table according to their predictions.
