Chelsea leapfrogs Man City into third

Monday, 21st March 2011 2:57pm
Chelsea leapfrogged Manchester City after winning the the last match of round 30 of the English Premier League.

The defending champions won the tie against their closest rivals 2-nil after two late second half goals.

Chelsea are now in third place whilst City are one point behind in fourth place.

The champions are now four points behind Arsenal who could only get a draw at the Hawthorns against West Bromwich Albion.

Tottenham Hotspurs could have moved closer to the top four but a goalless draw against relegation threatened West Ham means that they trail Man City by four points.

Liverpool are taking hold of sixth place after an away win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Liverpool are four points behind Spurs and five points ahead of Bolton in seventh.

Its at the bottom of the table where there is a lot of congestion. Whilst Wigan anchor the table now, there is now a six point difference between them and Newcastle in eleventh position.

The other two teams in the relegation zone are Birmingham who lost to Wigan and Wolverhampton Wanderers who beat Aston Villa 1-nil

The table below shows the form table for the last six matches only:
