Fifth vs sixth: Liverpool vs Spurs

Saturday, 14th May 2011 10:23pm
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspurs will meet in round 37 of the English Premiership to fight for the Europa place.

Spurs have been fighting for a place in the top four all season but recent results have meant that the North Londoners have now slipped down to sixth on table and in danger of missing European football altogether next season.

On the other hand Liverpool have had a dramatic second half of the season under Kenny Daglish and are now fighting for a place in the Europa Cup next season.

A win or a draw for Liverpool will be enough to secure fifth place and Spurs has to win to remain in the race.

A win for Spurs means the battle for fifth place will be settled in the last round of the season.

Relegation battle: Wigan vs West Ham

Saturday, 14th May 2011 10:18pm
The bottom two teams in the English Premiership, Wigan and West Ham meet in round 37 in a match neither team can afford to lose.

A loss for West Ham will spell relegation as that will mean they will only have three points to play for to bring their tally to 36 points.

A win will mean the Hammers can potentially finish on 39 points which will save them depending on other results.

A win for Wigan will take them to 39 points and the win will mean their fate will be in their own hands come the last weekend of the season.

A draw will also not do for the Hammers but that will spell relegation because then their maximum points will be 37 points.

Wigan could however do with a draw because a win in their last match could be enough to save them depending on other results.

Black Country derby : Wolves vs West Brom

Saturday, 7th May 2011 11:30pm
The second ever English Premiership Black Country derby will be played in round 36 as Wolverhampton Wanderers host West Bromwich Albion.

A few months ago this fixture looked like it was going to be a relegation dog fight but the Baggies have steered themselves from relegation and are now fighting to get their best ever finish in the premiership.

Wolves on the other hand are second from bottom and a win is crucial here especially as there will be two matches left after this match.

The two teams met in February and the match was drawn.

Here is some of the stats for the two teams so far this season:

Serie A round 36: Roma vs AC Milan

Saturday, 7th May 2011 11:24pm
AS Roma and AC Milan meet in Serie A's round with the visitors only needing a draw to clinch the title.

AC Milan are eight points ahead of rivals and champions Inter Milan and one more point will meet that Inter will not be able to catch AC Milan.

AC Milan have a better head to head record if the two teams were to finish on equal points.

Roma's battle is to finish in the Champions League places.

They trail local rivals Lazio by a single point.

The highest Roma can finish at the moment is fourth and a win is crucial in bringing Champions League football next season.

In their earlier meeting at the San Siro, Roma edged out AC Milan 1-nil.

Man Utd to meet Barca in final

Thursday, 5th May 2011 7:50am
Manchester United dispatched Schalke 6-1 on aggregate and they will meet Barcelona in the final at Wembley.

Man Utd won the first leg 2-nil and they were 2-1 up by the end of the first half at Old Trafford.

Barcelona drew with Real Madrid to win with a 3-1 aggregate.

The final mirrors the 2009 final which Barcelona won 2-nil.

I will take a look at look at how all teams would rank when put into one table including all the matches the teams have played up to now:

Man United 12 9 30 184 1430

So Man Utd stand out as the team still to lose a match in the competition.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have an almost identical record if you look at all the matches.

Norwich gains EPL automatic promotion

Tuesday, 3rd May 2011 1:36pm
Norwich beat Portsmouth 1-nil to secure second place in the Championship and automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Cardiff could have pushed the fight to the last match but they were shocked by Middlesbrough losing 3-nil at home.

Cardiff will now have to fight it out in the playoffs with Swansea, Reading and Nottingham Forest.

Leeds have a mathematical chance of a playoff but it looks unlikely because of the big goal difference that has to be overcome.

The promotion means Norwich have secured back to back promotions and will be back in the top flight after a six year absence.

Norwich joins Queens Park Rangers who won the Championship title.

Third vs first: Arsenal vs Man Utd

Sunday, 1st May 2011 7:54pm
Arsenal meet leaders Manchester United knowing that a win will bring them six points of their rivals.

The Gunners who lost their last match against Bolton will need to bounce back and make sure that that the worst position will at least be third.

A win for Manchester United will restore their six point gap over second placed Chelsea.

A loss wil mean that when the two teams meet next week they will be separated by just three points.
