Nigeria turns to Lagerback
Nigeria has now opted for former Swedish coach Lars Lagerback as their coach at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Nigeria dismissed local coach Shaibu Amodu after he finished third at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in favour of a foreign coach.
This is a short term contract as Lagerback will be with Nigeria until the end of the World Cup.
Lagerback was at the last World Cup in Germany as coach of Sweden.
Lagerback has never coached an African team before and this will also be his first time to coach outside Sweden.
He was the coach of Sweden from 1998 to 2009. He took sole responsibility of the team in 2004 and he resigned in 2009 when Sweden failed to reach the World Cup finals.
