The 2010 World Cup draw format
FIFA has now announced the 2010 World Cup draw format with the confirmation of the seeded teams.
The seeded teams are host South Africa and then holders Italy plus Argentina, Brazil, England, Germany, Netherlands and Spain.
The seeded teams will be in put in eight groups and South Africa the hosts will be in Group A and the rest of the seeded teams will head groups B to H.
Port 2 will comprise Asia, Oceania and North and Central American teams. The teams in this pot are Australia, Japan, Honduras, Korea DPR, Mexico, New Zealand, South Korea and the United States.
Port 3 will be for African and South American teams. The teams are Algeria, Cameroon, Chile, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Paraguay and Uruguay.
The last pot comprises of the unseeded European teams and these are Denmark, France, Greece, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland.
So for the World Cup draw On Friday, a group will comprise a team from each pot but no group will have more than one team from that confederation apart from Europe. There can be two teams in a group from Europe with one being seeded and another being unseeded(pot 4).
Group A for example will comprise of South Africa and then one of Chile, Paraguay or Uruguay, an unseeded European team and then one team from the Asia, Oceania and North and Central American pot.
