Celta Vigo kicks off La Liga 2012/13
The Spanish Primera Division will kick off this weekend with newly promoted Celta Vigo facing Malaga at home.
The other two matches on the opening day will see Sevilla face Getafe whilst Mallorca will host Espanyol.
La Liga is mostly seen as a two horse race between Real Madrid and Barcelona whilst the rest of the teams have no chance I think there are strong enough teams in the league hence Atletico Madrid won the Europa Cup last season.
The biggest change this season is maybe at Barcelona where Tito Vilanova has taken over from Pep Guardiola.
Vilanovas challenge will be to wrestle the title back from Real and possibly to also reclaim the Champions League.
Real have remained steady with Jose Mourinho still in charge and having got the league last season the next challenge may be the Uefa Champions League.
Of the chasing pack Valencia will still offer a strong challenge. They will kick off the season with a match against defending champions Real and that will be a very big early test for them.
Barcelona are at home to Real Sociedad and they will be trying to avoid the home draws that cost them dearly last season.
Atletico Madrid finished last season strongly after the appointment of Diego Simeone and I expect them to offer a good challenge and possibly finish in the top four.
The other promoted teams will play their matches on Monday night with Deportivo La Coruna meeting Osasuna and Real Valladolid playing the last match of the opening round against Real Zaragoza.
