Round 25: Home teams take advantage

Wednesday, 3rd February 2010 1:54pm
Round 25 of the A-League was only the second round this season when all the matches were won by home teams.

Most of the victories in this round were also very significant as they meant reaching the finals for the first time for Perth Glory, for example.

The Glory scored the highest number of goals when three first half goals were enough to dispatch once table toppers Central Coast Mariners.

Mariners are now in real danger of finishing bottom of the ladder after dropping to second from bottom place.

Wellington Phoenix also won against Adelaide to set themselves on course for the finals as well whilst Gold Coast United needed just one goal to claim second place on the ladder on goal difference behind Melbourne Victory.

The Phoenix needs at least two points to be sure of a maiden finals place.

Brisbane Roar kept themselves in finals contention with a crucial win over Sydney FC.

In the last match of the round the North Queensland Fury are also in the finals hunt after a win over Newcastle Jets.

Below are the second half scorelines for the A-League matches this season:

Its interesting to see that in 34 of the matches, no goals were scored in the second half.
